How to build a (pretty ropey) rocket ship in Unity 3D
As per usual, this is a development blog. It’s supposed to be filled with noob-like ways of which to achieve things. Feel free to comment on better ways to do what I’ve done. xthxbai

So it was my friend Steve’s birthday yesterday, so naturally I should have gotten him a present. Although, if you ever know me as a person, you’ll rarely get an actual present and usually either a card, some stupid little thing you’ll never use, or some one-off hand made thing of awesome. This present was the awesome variety. And a chance to practice some PHP. Awesome.
So after giving it a bit of a think, I’ve come up with how this site is going to operate. It’s part social network, part blogging platform (but mostly just a glorified pinboard).
The second chunk of project we have to complete this fortnight is PHP and MySQL based. The brief is pretty loose on this one. It’s simply making a website that puts things and/or gets things from a database. Of course, in the lessons we’ve done a simple comments system and image uploader, but I’m aiming to go that little bit further and cramming it all into one and making it portable.
I’ve been inspired by Rob Hawke’s Rawkets to get off my behind and start learning me some new standards. I’d known about HTML5 for a long time and have long been sceptical about it. What, with all the hoo-hah of HTML5 vs. Flash, and being an avid Flash fan, I didn’t really want to concede at first glance. Now there’s a future where they can work together, I guess it’s a push in the right direction.
